About this listing

Overview The Head of the Schuylkill Regatta is Philadelphia's fall festival of rowing and the second-largest regatta in the country. Every October, thousands of rowers race a 2.5-mile head course down the Schuylkill River, under four historic bridges and past the Boathouse Row finish, while spectators pack the banks of Fairmount Park for a full weekend. On site Crews start one after another and race the clock, so there is always a boat on the water from early morning to late afternoon on both days. Fans line Kelly Drive and gather in the Three Angels Festival Area, with food trucks, a vendor marketplace, team tents and a medals stage, and the whole regatta streams live with Olympian commentators. Sponsors can take a festival tent or booth, livestream title or ad spots, program book ads, logo on event apparel and banners, or a feature role such as the finish line, water stations or volunteer outfitter. Audience Athletes and their families from high schools, top college programs, masters and adaptive clubs, elite and alumni crews travel from across the U.S. and abroad. They share the riverbank with Philadelphia locals, business and community leaders and alumni of hundreds of top schools, and livestream viewers follow from home across the country. Talent and Influencers Olympic and national team rowers race alongside high school crews, and past and present Olympians call the livestream as guest commentators. NCAA programs including Penn, Drexel, Temple and Georgetown chase the Points Trophy, and University Barge Club members who founded the modern race still help run it. Track record Racing on the Schuylkill dates back to the 1870s, the modern regatta began in 1970 and it went to two days in 2008 as demand grew. Rowing News called it the best head race in the world. The volunteer-run nonprofit also funds a high school rowing scholarship, a river stewardship program and a community art contest for its poster. Brand presence Jefferson Health, Visit Philadelphia, Pathstone, the Haverford Trust Company and Valley Forge Sports support the regatta, with Philadelphia Parks & Recreation and the Philadelphia Water Department as civic partners and Rowing News, Boathouse and Brightside Rowing from the sport.
