About this listing

Overview The DICK'S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon is a whole weekend of races run by the nonprofit P3R on a course that crosses all three of Pittsburgh's rivers, and its Saturday Kids Marathon alone drew more than 18,500 kids and their parents in 2026. Saturday is Family Day, with a 5K, the Champions Mile for runners of all abilities, the Kids Marathon, a Toddler Trot and a Pet Walk. Sunday carries the marathon, the UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon, a marathon relay, a BACK Half that runs the second half of the course, a 4-Mile Fitness Challenge and a handcycle division. P3R stages up to 20 events a year across western Pennsylvania. On site The Pittsburgh Live Well Expo opens Friday at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, with a VIP hour before the doors open to everyone, and runs through Saturday. Saturday's races start on the North Shore at West General Robinson Street and Mazeroski Way, where Steely McBeam and the Pirate Parrot worked the Kids Marathon start line in 2026. The Finish Line Festival fills Point State Park both mornings. On Sunday the corrals open at 5:30, the handcycles go at 6:50 and the waves run from 7:00, out through neighborhoods including the South Side, Oakland, Shadyside, East Liberty, Highland Park, Bloomfield, Lawrenceville and the Strip District, past band and cheer zones mapped along the course. Audience On Sunday in 2026 about 26,000 runners from all 50 states and 34 countries earned medals. Family Day's field ran from nine months to 88 years old. Many Kids Marathon runners arrive through Kids of STEEL, which runs in more than 360 schools and organizations: children log 25.2 miles of activity over the program and run the last mile on race day. A record 4,770 people raised money through Run for a Reason in 2026. Talent and Influencers Pittsburgh native Will Loevner won the 2026 marathon in 2:14:52, 12 seconds ahead of U.S. Olympian Jared Ward. Jane Bareikis won the women's race for a third straight year, the first woman to do it. In the half, Ethiopia's Buze Diriba Kejela set a women's course record of 1:08:39. Pittsburgh hosted the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials for women in 1988 and men in 2000, and Pittsburgh was named host of the 2027 USATF Half Marathon Championships. Track record The marathon ran from 1985 to 2003, went dark for five years and relaunched in 2009 with a sold-out field of 10,000. Weekend finishers: a record 42,000 in 2024, more than 52,000 in 2026. Run for a Reason raised $1.4 million in 2025 from 4,270 charity runners and nearly $20 million since 2009. The weekend was named a Zero Waste event in 2022 and 2023, diverting 92% and 91% of its waste from landfill. Brand presence DICK'S Sporting Goods took the title at the 2009 relaunch, and in 2026 P3R extended it through 2028. Nearly every race and zone carries a partner's name, from the half marathon and the relay to the Kids Marathon, the Toddler Trot, the expo and the Finish Line Festival. Partners have built product into the weekend: Brooks made a limited Pittsburgh edition of the Glycerin 23 celebrating the city's bridges, in 2026 Duolingo put student artwork on the Kids Marathon start line and Jeep led the runners as official vehicle, and OOFOS opened the first recovery lounge in 2025. The Pittsburgh Corporate Challenge brought 6,511 employees from 81 companies into training for race weekend in 2026.
