About this listing
Overview Extravaganza is UC Santa Barbara's free, students-only spring music festival in Harder Stadium, planned and run by the student Associated Students Program Board, and its bills have put Drake on stage in 2010, Kendrick Lamar in 2013 and Playboi Carti in 2019. It is one day at the end of spring quarter, usually a Sunday in May, and a student fee pays for it. The festival began in 1979 as a showcase for local bands, became annual in 1989 and between then and 2026 missed only 2020. In 2011 entry was limited to people with a UCSB affiliation. On site The stage goes up at the north end of the stadium with booths down both sides, and everyone passes a pat-down and bag search at the gate; in 2023 and 2024 gates opened at 1 p.m. Each year gets its own theme - 2026 was Wild Wild X, a western - and the lineup is revealed on campus weeks ahead, in 2026 with a march from the Arbor to the Storke Tower lawn. The day runs through to early evening with food and activities around the field. Audience The whole crowd is UCSB students, and the lineup reveal is a campus event of its own. Program Board's own event post told students to get their fits ready. In 2026 its coordinator said the board moved the bill away from EDM to reach a much bigger share of the student body. Talent and Influencers Dominic Fike headlined in 2026, the first indie rock headliner in 11 years, switching between guitars and keyboard, with JT, Earl Sweatshirt and Jane Remover on the bill. Steve Aoki headlined in 2024, Chance the Rapper in 2014 and Ludacris in 2009. A student DJ can win a set: in 2023 the winner of Program Board's Battle of the DJs opened the day. Track record The 2026 edition was the 46th and drew about 7,500 students, a turnout the Daily Nexus called notably high. Brand presence Sponsor logos ran on the stage screens during the 2026 sets, including Albertsons and Woodstock's. Program Board's tiers combine on-campus marketing in the run-up, posts on its social channels, the logo on festival apparel and an optional activation inside the stadium.
