Overview The Alabama Girls Flag Football Tournament is a free two-day event open only to girls flag football teams from Alabama High School Athletic Association schools. The RCX Sports Foundation runs it in Dothan as the non-profit arm of RCX Sports, the youth sports operating partner of the NFL, NHL, MLS, MLB, NBA and WNBA. Friday is opening night for players and coaches. Saturday is a full day of bracket play. College coaches attend to recruit. On site Opening night takes place at Grandview Field at the Izell Reese Community Center, a full-size turf NFL FLAG field run by the Foundation. Teams sit down to a welcome tailgate and dinner on the turf, followed by an opening ceremony with speeches. A step and repeat stands ready for team photos. On Saturday the games move to the fields at Westgate Park and run from morning into the late afternoon, ending with a championship awards ceremony. Every player and coach goes home in NFL FLAG gear. Audience The players are high school girls in grades 9 through 12, and they travel to Dothan with their coaches from Mobile, Montgomery, Opelika, Prattville, the Birmingham suburbs and the Wiregrass. Spectators fill the sidelines between games. College coaches come to scout players for scholarship programs. Talent and Influencers RCX Sports CEO Izell Reese, a Dothan native and former NFL player, hosts the weekend in his hometown. Past guests include Tyrone Poole, head coach of women's flag football at Alabama State University, the first Division I HBCU to offer the sport, and Team USA flag football player Tyler Davis. Track record The field has grown from 8 schools and 160 athletes to 18 schools and 360 athletes. Prattville won the latest title. Vestavia Hills took the top bracket the year before, after beating Prattville in the final. Across the state, AHSAA girls flag football grew from 1,596 players to 3,372 in a single season. Brand presence The Atlanta Falcons present the tournament and run on-field activations, and their mascot turns up in the team photos. Sponsor activation spaces sit in high-traffic spots on opening night and through Saturday's games. Partner logos go on feather flags and A-frames at both venues and on the tournament's emails and presentations. At the latest edition Guardian Sports gave every athlete a LOOP protective headband.
