About this listing
Overview The Asian American International Film Festival is the country's first and longest-running festival for Asian and Asian American cinema, known as the first home of Asian American film. Asian CineVision, a media arts nonprofit founded by activists in Manhattan's Chinatown, has run it every summer in New York since 1978. The festival screens in person across the city and streams across North America. On site Two weeks of premieres, shorts programs, documentaries, music videos, VR and restorations play at Asia Society on the Upper East Side and Village East by Angelika in the East Village, with opening and closing night receptions, a music video showcase, screenplay readings, industry panels and workshops, an awards ceremony and a filmmaker lounge. Sponsors can take the festival's title, name an award or program category, present a tentpole screening, run a trailer before every film and table at screenings. Audience Filmmakers, film lovers and Asian American New Yorkers from all five boroughs and the tri-state area, plus an online audience across North America. New York is the second-largest Asian American market in the country, with about 1.3 million people, and Asian Americans stream more and favor brands that advertise in inclusive content. Talent and Influencers Opening and closing nights bring directors and casts for New York premieres and Q&As, and past editions have hosted playwright David Henry Hwang, actor Tzi Ma, artist-activist Nobuko Miyamoto and Library of Congress innovator Jeffrey Yoo Warren. Juried awards and industry panels draw working filmmakers, programmers and community leaders. Track record The festival has run for nearly five decades and screens more than a hundred films from over two dozen countries each year, including world, U.S. and New York premieres. Recent editions sold more than 4,000 tickets across in-person and virtual events and drew about five million impressions across New York City and online. Brand presence Current sponsors include MUBI, SAG-AFTRA, AMC Global Media, Final Draft, the Criterion Collection, Letterboxd, Fly By Jing, Momofuku Goods, Lush and LMNT, with Asia Society and Village East by Angelika as venue partners. Past corporate sponsors include Citi, HBO, JPMorgan Chase, Toyota, Verizon, Wells Fargo, P&G, Stella Artois, Southwest and Cathay Pacific.
