About this listing
Overview The Charles County Fair is a four-day agricultural fair held annually every September at the Charles County Fairgrounds in La Plata, Maryland, running Thursday through Sunday. On site The week opens with a Thursday evening Queen's Pageant and Friday morning Opening Ceremonies, and closes with a Saturday night 4-H livestock auction and horse pull and a Sunday 4-H horse show. Entertainment runs across three stages - Main Stage, Pavilion Stage, and Greens Stage - alongside a carnival midway, commercial exhibit buildings, a food court, and picnic areas. A dedicated Kids Day draws a large turnout of children and families. Livestock and equestrian programming centers on an indoor show ring in the livestock barn, and an outdoor show ring is used for draft and light horse pulls. A video wall and PA system carry sponsor messaging throughout the grounds, and a fleet of golf carts and Gators moves fair board and staff around the property. Audience The fair draws attendees from across Southern Maryland, with exhibits and competition entries open to residents of Charles, Calvert, St. Mary's, Anne Arundel, and Prince George's counties. It is family-oriented programming, with free admission for children 10 and under and a chaperone requirement for minors after 5pm. Track record The fair draws an estimated 45,000 visitors across its four days and has an official Facebook following of 12,000. Brand presence Current sponsors span local and regional businesses including Charles County Farm Bureau, PNC Bank, Shore United Bank, Waldorf Ford, and the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center, with eighteen active sponsors on the property.
