Overview Colorado National Speedway is a paved NASCAR short track in Dacono, north of Denver, where 11 weekly divisions race on Saturday nights, from Super Late Models down to Bandoleros, stock cars in miniature for drivers 8 to 14. The speedway calls itself the fastest 3/8-mile oval in the West and Colorado's only NASCAR track. It opened in 1965, when Gene and Gerta Heffley cut a one-mile dirt oval out of a field below the Rockies; it was paved and joined NASCAR's weekly program in 1989, and hosted the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series from 1995 to 1997. On site A regular night runs three to five division races, with practice in the afternoon and the green flag at 6:30. The Rock and Roll Brewery Beer Garden in turn two looks over the whole track from high-tops, booths and bleachers, with a top-shelf bar and its own kitchen, and Famous Dave's caters groups from 15 to 750. Billboards 12 by 24 feet line the north end between turns three and four, where a digital scrolling board also sits, and westward boards face the parking lot. Special nights add twin races, intermission shows or fireworks, and the Father's Day Monster Fest opens the infield for a pit party with the trucks and drivers. In 2026 the speedway added a 1/8-mile drag strip. Audience Parking is free and tickets are cheap, and many fans come back week after week. In the speedway's 2019 fan survey, about a third of them attended 16 or more races a season. More than 200 drivers register each season across the divisions, starting with the 8-year-olds in Bandoleros. Sponsors set up booths at the main entrance to meet fans as they arrive. Talent and Influencers Brett Yackey won the Pure Stock title in 2014, Super Stock in 2015, Late Models in 2016 and 2018, and Super Late Models in 2021, 2023 and 2024. Mahkrysta Hilton won her first feature at 15 and the NASCAR UNOH Youth Achievement award in 2020. Touring series fill the calendar: the 2026 season brought the ARCA Menards Series West, CARS Tour West and the North American Big Rigs, whose racing semis came from Canada and the Pacific Northwest. Track record The 2024 Sprint Car Spectacular sold out. So did the 2023 Father's Day show. Wheels and Wishes, run with Make-A-Wish Colorado, put more than 60 exotic cars on show, auctioned rides in them around the oval and raised more than $10,000. More than 150 motorcyclists rode in the 2026 Ride 9/11 memorial before arriving at the speedway. Brand presence A division partner's name goes on the windshield of every car in that division, and the partner gets its own naming night, such as the MATCO Tools Championship Night. Event naming nights carry names like the Coca-Cola Halloween Trick or Treat Celebration, and the naming partner joins the winner in Victory Lane. Smaller partners take 10-by-12 promotional spaces by the ticket office, the main entrance, the Diner concessions or the South VIP entrance, and every partner gets called out by the track announcer.
