El Grito Chicago is an iconic celebration of Mexican Independence Day returning to Grant Park in downtown Chicago. Presented by the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Mexican Consul General in Chicago, the City of Chicago, and the Chicago Park District, the two-day festival runs from 2pm to 10pm daily and is a tribute to the rich history, dynamic traditions, and thriving spirit of Chicago's Mexican community. Attendees enjoy live performances by national and local talent including Mariachi bands and traditional ballet folclórico dancers at the Petrillo Bandshell, authentic Mexican cuisine from local food vendors, a curated arts and crafts market featuring fine arts vendors and cultural community groups, and a dedicated family area with inflatables, games, crafts, and kids' activities. The event reaches a broad audience through established social media channels, targeted local and regional advertising, and dedicated e-blasts to an opt-in database of 60,000+. Latinos represent 35% of Chicago's residents, with 20% of all Chicagoans claiming Mexican roots and the city's Mexican population totaling approximately 590,000. Illinois is the fifth largest state in Latino population in the U.S. with 2,337,410 Latinos representing 18% of the state's population.
