About this listing
Overview The Franklin Theatre is a 1937 movie house on Main Street in Franklin, Tennessee, where the world premieres of Friday Night Lights and Elizabethtown were held before it closed in 2007; it reopened in 2011 as a concert, film, theater and dance venue of 289 to 312 seats. The Heritage Foundation of Williamson County bought it, spent three years and more than $8 million restoring it, and runs it as a nonprofit division. It was the town's first LEED-certified historic restoration. On site The marquee faces Main Street, and inside the stage measures 30 by 23 feet with a retractable 23-foot screen for films. A private VIP lounge sits at balcony level, the bar is full service and the concession stand sells popcorn, candy, pizza, beer and wine. Parking garages on 2nd and 4th Avenue are both under five minutes' walk. Between shows the theater rents out for corporate and employee events, premieres and screenings, recordings and webcasts, and benefits. Talent and Influencers The theater's list of past performers includes Keb' Mo', Indigo Girls, Taj Mahal, Ricky Skaggs, Black Violin, the Fisk Jubilee Singers, Peter Cetera, The Waterboys and Chubby Checker. Track record It opened in 1937 with Night Must Fall, at 10 cents for children and 25 cents for adults, and in 1938 became Franklin's first air-conditioned building. In 1970 it lost its marquee to a modern facade and became the Franklin Cinema, whose last films in 2007 were Charlotte's Web and Night at the Museum. The foundation launched the Save the Franklin Theatre campaign in 2008, and in 2012, its first full year back, the theater hosted more than 500 events. Brand presence Partnerships run across the calendar rather than one night: a title partner for the year, a presenting position that takes over a single show, and a presence in the lobby.
