Overview The Glacier Half Marathon is a road half marathon along the eastern edge of Glacier National Park in northwest Montana. Vacation Races, the national-park race series run by Motiv Sports, holds it each June on the Blackfeet Reservation between Browning and East Glacier Park. The course starts on open prairie, climbs Looking Glass Hill toward the park and finishes on the front lawn of the historic Glacier Park Lodge. On site Race weekend opens Friday with the expo and bib pickup at Red Eagle Campground on Lower Two Medicine Lake, which doubles as the official race campground, and a Native presentation in the afternoon. On Saturday runners park at Charging Home Stampede Park in Browning and ride shuttles to the start on Highway 89. The morning begins with the national anthem and a Blackfeet honor song and victory song. The first five miles climb almost 900 feet, miles five to ten run downhill past Lower Two Medicine Lake, and the last stretch rolls into East Glacier Park. At the lodge finish every runner gets a medal and a recovery food box, and the merchandise tent opens nearby. Aid stations are cup-free. Audience Almost every runner travels in, and many build a longer trip around Glacier and the Going-to-the-Sun Road. At the most recent race about two thirds of finishers were women, and the biggest age group was 25 to 34. Across the series nine in ten runners visit a national park while in town, and many come back for other Vacation Races stops. Talent and Influencers There is no paid elite field. Course record holders race free every year their mark stands. Place medals go five deep overall, for masters and in every age group, which keeps the front of the pack busy long after the winners finish. Charity runners race on Wander Project bibs and can have their entry fee waived once they reach their fundraising goal, with the money going to the communities and wild places around the parks. Track record The race has been on the Vacation Races calendar for years, and its course records go back through several editions. The most recent race had more than 1,000 finishers, and the series as a whole brings over 30,000 runners a year to events in and around the national parks.
