About this listing
Overview The Hamptons Marathon is a race weekend in Southampton Village on Long Island's East End: a marathon, a half marathon and a 5K on one Saturday morning each fall. Runners start and finish beside the pond at Agawam Park in the village centre. The course runs along Meadow Lane with the Atlantic on one side and Shinnecock Bay on the other, passes Coopers Beach and winds through Southampton's estate lanes. Runner's World called it a "Bucket List Must Do." Local residents Amanda Moszkowski and Diane Weinberger founded it and still direct it, and Capstone Event Group produces it. On site Packet pickup is at the Southampton Arts Center on Jobs Lane the day before the race and again on race morning. The course is flat and certified. Marathoners pass 15 aid stations with water, an electrolyte drink and energy gels at set miles. Official pacers lead groups in the full and the half, and wheelchair and handcycle athletes start five minutes ahead of the field. The Hampton Jitney runs a free shuttle from the Southampton Intermediate School. After the finish, the post-race party on the Arts Center lawn has live music, a recovery tent, sponsor booths, a cocktail camper and the awards stage. Audience About 4,000 runners are expected, and with spectators the race brings close to 9,000 people into the village. Women are 53% of the field and two thirds of runners are in their twenties or thirties. Most come from New York City and the rest of Long Island. Nearly 85% eat out in the village that weekend, and several local businesses called it their busiest weekend of the year. Talent and Influencers The founders are the faces of the race, and the two of them also launched a Girls on the Run program that runs as one of the race's charity teams. Beast Pacing supplies the official pacers. Charity teams run for the T.J. Martell Foundation, the Lymphoma Research Foundation, Girls on the Run and Make-A-Wish Metro New York. New York Road Runners, which puts on the New York City Marathon, is a race partner. Track record The race began in Springs, in East Hampton, and moved to Southampton Village, where the course now starts and finishes at Agawam Park. Registration has grown every year since. Hamptons Marathon, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) that gives net proceeds to local causes such as Stony Brook Southampton Hospital and Southampton Youth Services. Runners rate the race 4.43 out of 5, and the Southampton Press and East Hampton Star cover it. Brand presence Capstone builds each partnership around the runner's journey, from sign-up and training through race week, packet pickup, the start, the hard miles, the finish and the results. Sponsors can brand bibs, finisher medals, the start and finish arch, course signs, mile markers and an aid station, take a booth at packet pickup or the post-race party, and reach registered runners by email, where open rates run near 86%. Partners include New York Road Runners, Hampton Jitney, Saunders & Associates and Just Ice Tea.
