Overview High Sierra Music Festival is a four-day music and camping festival over the Fourth of July weekend, founded in 1991, and much of it happens away from the headliners: artist-led playshops, acoustic Troubadour Sessions, late-night shows and a daily parade. In 2026 it moved from its longtime site at the Plumas County Fairgrounds in Quincy to the Nevada County Fairgrounds in Grass Valley, closer to the Bay Area, Sacramento and Lake Tahoe, for its 34th edition. On site The 2026 bill ran to more than 50 acts across the main stages and late-night slots. Around the music, the weekend runs morning yoga, Sunrise Kickball, a Silent Disco, a craft vendors village and the High Sierra Swirl, a beer, wine and spirits tasting. The Family Village has its own programming, and Rockin' Nannies runs childcare on site. The Grass Valley fairgrounds add shade, larger camping zones, RV hookups and parking inside the gates, and the box office and early check-in run from Sierra College's Nevada County campus. Audience The crowd treats the weekend as a standing date. Producer Dave Margulies said in 2026 that he knows people who told new employers they needed Fourth of July weekend off for a family reunion they go to every year. The Grass Valley move put hotels and short-term rentals within reach, and he said fans who had taken years off planned to return because of it. Talent and Influencers Steel Pulse headlined 2026, on a bill that leaned hard on New Orleans, with The Word and Don Was and the Pan-Detroit Ensemble, who played the Grateful Dead's Blues for Allah in full for its 50th anniversary. The New Orleans contingent included Dumpstaphunk, with its own set and a Sly Stone tribute, the Trombone Shorty Foundation Band, Anders Osborne, The Breaks - Stanton Moore, Eddie Roberts and Robert Walter - and 16-year-old pianist River Eckert. Cymande, the 1970s British funk band, played too, with Karl Denson's Tiny Universe and Eggy. Margulies, who went to Tulane, was at his 49th consecutive New Orleans Jazz Fest in 2026. Brand presence Partner positions sit on the pieces of the weekend people already gather around: the main stage, the VIP experience and the Family Village. JamBase was the festival's media partner in 2026. In 2026 much of the festival's Grizzly Radio crew came from KVMR, the community station in downtown Nevada City, and the Crazy Horse Saloon and Brewbuilt BrewHaus were among its partners around town.
