About this listing
Overview The Holiday Night Bazaar takes over three blocks of Irving Street in San Francisco's Outer Sunset, from 22nd to 25th Avenue, for an evening market of local merchants, food, entertainment and family activities. Sunset Mercantile puts it on with Smokin' D's BBQ and Sunset Youth Services. It is the holiday night of a bazaar series. Two Sunset mothers, Angie Petitt and Laura Peschke-Zingler, founded Sunset Mercantile in 2014, and the company runs the Outer Sunset Farmers Market and Mercantile on 37th Avenue every Sunday along with a year of neighborhood and citywide events that it says draw more than 200,000 people. On site Merchant stalls and food vendors line the corridor in front of Irving Street's own restaurants and shops, with live entertainment, hands-on crafts, games and family activities in between. Much of what is for sale is small-batch work by Bay Area makers. Sunset Mercantile's stated mission is to support small makers, and its vendors are hyper-local: food artisans, farmers, musicians, storytellers and artists. Audience These are neighbors. By Sunset Mercantile's own count about half its audience lives in the Sunset District, 35% elsewhere in San Francisco and 12% in other Bay Area counties, and the company describes them as San Franciscans who care about good food, sustainability, shopping local and creativity. Track record The city gave the company a day. In 2024, on its 10th anniversary, Mayor London Breed declared December 7 Sunset Holiday Mercantile Day in San Francisco. The sister Sunset Night Market draws 15,000 to 20,000 people an event by the company's count and has had coverage from CBS News, KQED, the SF Standard and the Chronicle. Brand presence Sponsors at Sunset Mercantile events take a themed piece of the night, such as the games area, the food court, the stage or the step-and-repeat. Custom packages go further, up to an electric vehicle on display or a branded all-ages fun zone. Avenue Greenlight and the Outer Sunset Merchants and Professionals Association backed the bazaar alongside its two co-presenters.
