About this listing
Overview The Irving Marathon is a spring road race in Las Colinas, between Dallas and Fort Worth, run over two days: the 10K and 5K go off on Saturday morning, the marathon and half at 7 on Sunday, and runners who race both days earn the Weekend Challenge medal and jacket. The course is USATF-certified and a Boston qualifier. The 2027 edition is the 15th. It is the flagship of the Irving Marathon Running Series, six races a year from the same start line at The Plaza at Toyota Music Factory, and its proceeds go to the Irving Schools Foundation for scholarships to Irving ISD students who volunteer on the course. On site The route is flat and runs through downtown Las Colinas, along the Las Colinas Canals and Water Street, around Lake Carolyn and past the Mustangs of Las Colinas monument. DJs set up along the way, and more than 90 off-duty police officers close the streets. Pace groups run from 3:10 to 6:00 in the marathon and 1:40 to 3:00 in the half, and results track live on the RaceJoy app. A PR bell hangs at the finish. The post-race party on The Plaza pours free beer with food and entertainment, and a VIP package adds brunch. Audience Runners come to chase times. Up to 20 elite entries a race go free to marathoners under 3:00 for men and 3:20 for women, the top three overall in the marathon and half take cash, and age groups run in 16 divisions. Teams race for trophies in three categories: fastest, most participation and best dressed. The series says its fields have included runners from 17 or 18 nations, and the start line sits between DFW International and Dallas Love Field. Track record Lazaro Alvarez and Ronnie Chesko founded the race in 2012, and its results run back to 2013. In 2019 Alvarez launched the Irving Marathon Running Series to put races on the calendar year-round. Every race in the series funds a $1,000 scholarship for an Irving ISD student volunteer. Alvarez won an Entrepreneur of the Year award at the Hispanic Business Salute in 2023. Brand presence Toyota of Irving underwrites the free professional race photos every runner gets. Top series sponsors receive race entries, their logo on runner and volunteer shirts and race bags, an expo booth at packet pickup, recognition on the medal ribbon and at a water station, packet inserts, PA announcements and an entry discount for their employees. Race-level positions run from the bib and the course signage to the PR bell, the team challenge and the finish-line beer.
