About this listing

Overview Kilby Block Party is Salt Lake City's all-ages indie festival, and it started in 2019 as a one-day party on a closed street for the 20th birthday of Kilby Court, a small all-ages room that bills itself as the longest-running in the city, with Death Cab for Cutie at the top of that first bill. It moved to Library Square in 2022 and to the Utah State Fairpark in 2023, and it ran three days that year. The promoter that owns Kilby Court runs it, and the same company books seven other venues, among them The Complex, Urban Lounge and Metro Music Hall, plus the Twilight Concert Series. On site Gates open at 11:30 in the morning, and in 2025 more than 70 bands played across four stages. Every ticket covers one person regardless of age, babies included, and the wristband allows re-entry. The site is cashless. Food trucks, beer and liquor tents and free water refill stations run across the Fairpark, and chairs, blankets and tents are not allowed in. Nobody sits on the dance floors or directly in front of a stage. In 2025 a festival ticket doubled as a free UTA transit pass for the weekend, and the TRAX Green Line stops at Fairpark Station. Audience It is a traveling crowd. In the festival's 2025 survey more than half of attendees came from out of state, with California, Colorado, Texas, Idaho and Arizona the biggest markets after Utah; 44% were at their first Kilby and 70% already planned to return. All ages means actual families: parents may bring a diaper bag and a small cooler for formula or breast milk. Talent and Influencers Young the Giant topped the 2021 edition, with Built to Spill. Phoebe Bridgers and Mac DeMarco headlined in 2022, on a bill with Clairo and Steve Lacy. In 2023 it was The Strokes, Pavement and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, with Pixies and Run the Jewels further down. LCD Soundsystem, The Postal Service and Vampire Weekend closed 2024, and New Order, Beach House, Weezer and Justice closed 2025. Lorde, The xx and Turnstile headlined 2026, above Hayley Williams, Modest Mouse, Father John Misty, Japanese Breakfast and Magdalena Bay. Track record The first street party drew about 5,000 people; the four-day 2025 edition counted 88,000. Along the way the festival skipped 2020 for the pandemic, came back in October 2021 for another single day, and grew to two days in 2022 and three in 2023. Nic Smith, the promoter's managing director at the time, called the 2024 edition the biggest and best-attended the festival had run. Brand presence Each of the four stages can carry a sponsor's name, and so can the VIP and VIP+ areas, the fast-lane entrance, the bike valet, the parking lots, the shade structures, the indoor silent disco and the festival's own after-parties. Partners also run activations and sampling in general admission, host artist meet-and-greets and put their marks on wristbands, cups and merchandise. The festival app is part of the package: in 2025 it logged 13,710 users averaging about 20 sessions each and 4 million sponsor banner views.
