About this listing
Overview Lakeview Taco Fest closes the Southport Corridor on Chicago's North Side for a late-summer weekend and turns it into a taco contest: more than a dozen taquerias and restaurants cook for a People's Choice award the crowd votes on by text all weekend, and a Critics' Choice decided by a judging panel on the Saturday. Entry is a suggested $10 donation to Friends of Lakeview, a neighborhood nonprofit whose money goes to public art, tree planting, the Low-Line Farmers Market and the Lakeview Low-Line. Special Events Management, a Chicago festival producer, runs it. On site The festival fills Southport Avenue with a stage at each end, the South Stage at Roscoe and the North Stage at Addison, and taco booths and vendors in between. A Lucha Libre ring stands at Southport and Cornelia, with wrestling bouts every day, and the winners are named from that ring late on the Sunday afternoon. Seasonal beers are poured as pairings for the tacos, and there are activities for kids. A VIP area adds a private bar with beers and specialty margaritas, shaded seating, private bathrooms and food samples. In 2026 Friday ran from 4 to 10 at night and the weekend days from 11 in the morning. Talent and Influencers The stages run on Chicago bands, most of them tribute acts. The 2026 bill had Too Fighters for Foo Fighters, Super Creeps for Bowie, Funky Monks for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Rumours Five for Fleetwood Mac and Rearview for Pearl Jam, alongside Mariachi Los Palmeros, Chicago Latin Groove, 16 Candles and student bands from School of Rock. The 2026 critics' panel was Joshua Hernandez of CBS Chicago, John Moug of B96, Friends of Lakeview board president Lisa Santos and content creator Flo Lawnicki. Track record The 2026 festival was the 13th. That year Tuco and Blondie took People's Choice and Delicias Tacos took Critics' Choice. Brand presence Nineteen sponsors ran on the 2026 event page, among them Estrella Jalisco, Michelob Ultra, Nosotros Tequila, Goose Island 312, NRG and Chiro One. Friends of Lakeview works alongside the Lakeview Roscoe Village Chamber of Commerce and Special Service Area 27, and the festival page links to both. The VIP area is sold as its own ticket, which puts a bar and a shaded seating area inside the footprint apart from the street.
