About this listing
Overview Screen Gab Live is the Los Angeles Times' television screening series: an audience watches an episode of a new season in a Los Angeles theater, and then the cast and showrunner come out to talk about it, a format that has put Billy Crystal, Aldis Hodge and Carrie Preston on its stage. It grew out of Screen Gab, the Times' Friday newsletter of TV and streaming picks, and the paper says it exists to answer the question its entertainment writers get asked at dinner parties and on the phone with Mom: what should I watch? It is one of three screening series the Times produces, alongside The Envelope Live and Indie Focus. On site Most nights run at The Culver Theater in Culver City. The episode screens first, often ahead of its premiere, and a Times writer moderates the conversation afterward: Screen Gab's Matt Brennan sat down with Billy Crystal after a screening of his Apple TV+ drama Before, and the Times' Lorraine Ali ran the Ghosts panel. The Tulsa King season two night in September 2024 and the On Call screening were free to attend. Panels are filmed and posted to the Times' YouTube channel, and LA Times Studios publishes a written recap of each one. Talent and Influencers The Cross night in January 2026 brought showrunner Ben Watkins, Aldis Hodge and Matthew Lillard to talk about season two. Utkarsh Ambudkar, Danielle Pinnock and the Ghosts showrunners came in ahead of the fifth season on CBS, Seth Rogen talked Platonic, and Harriet Dyer and Patrick Brammall previewed the second season of Colin From Accounts. Taron Egerton and director Nick Rowland brought the film She Rides Shotgun. Other nights have covered Elsbeth, Dark Winds, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Surface, Deli Boys, Mythic Quest, DMV, Long Story Short and the Apple TV series Margo's Got Money Troubles, Rico Nasty's first acting role. Brand presence The shows on stage come from Apple TV, Prime Video, CBS, Netflix, Hulu and AMC, and each night is built around one title. Partners buy in at five levels, from bronze up to a presenting partner, and the Times offers editorial amplification and placement in the Screen Gab newsletter alongside the live nights.
