About this listing
Overview Maxwell Tribeca is a private members' club in an 1891 Tribeca warehouse where members cook dinner together in open chef's kitchens, and where the house's own studio produces brand events and content in the same rooms. The club takes its name, and the hand-painted Gracie murals on its walls, from Elsa Maxwell, the gossip columnist and party-giver. David Litwak founded it, and it runs four rooms and a patio on the ground floor of the Fleming Smith Warehouse at Watts and Washington Streets. Merchant Fleming Smith commissioned the building from architect Stephen Decatur Hatch as a shoe factory and wine storehouse; in the late 1970s it became the first commercial building in the neighborhood converted for residential use. On site The Grand Room holds the Grand Kitchen and is used for weddings, fashion week dinners and chef's table demonstrations. The Garden Room is a cross between an English garden and Versailles and opens onto the patio in summer, with its own entrance on Washington Street. The Explorers Room is a two-floor library with a bar built into a hot air balloon basket and hand-painted Galapagos wallpaper. The house keeps lighting rigs, cameras, wireless mics and two Technics turntables on hand. Audience Membership runs on house rituals: an open bar for members every Friday, Family Dinner with members cooking in the kitchen, Mansion Parties, debate nights and ideas dinners with Chefs in Residence, and an August house share in East Hampton. Talent and Influencers Guests the club lists include Reese Witherspoon, David Letterman, Blake Lively and Brooklyn Beckham. Vogue covered Tommy Hilfiger and SZA's brunch party here and actor Avantika's Diwali party, and PAPER held Ayo Edebiri's cover dinner in the house. Track record Maxwell found the building in 2021. Maxwell Studios has produced Flavors of Football with Manchester City Football Group, which put a Man City legend in the kitchen with a celebrity chef; Midnight Munches, a series of celebrities and chefs cooking their favorite late-night food; and Via Carota Cocktails' Summer Fridays campaign, covering photography, video and the activation itself. The club has been written up in The New Yorker, Vogue, ELLE Decor, Town and Country and The Wall Street Journal. Brand presence Brands book the house through Maxwell Studios. It supplies creative direction and cultural programming, photo, video and audio crews, guest list curation and influencer relations, chef collaborations, and house-trained waiters and bartenders. The Grand Kitchen is also sold on its own, for private chef dinners, chef demonstrations and food brand pop-ups.
