About this listing
Overview Millonarios is the Bogotá football club whose 1950s side, built around Alfredo Di Stéfano and nicknamed the Ballet Azul, went to Madrid in 1952 and beat Real Madrid 4-2. It plays in Colombia's Primera A, which runs two championships a calendar year, the Apertura and the Finalización, and its 16th league title came in the 2023 Apertura, won on penalties against Atlético Nacional. Home is Estadio El Campín, shared with Independiente Santa Fe, and the meeting between the two is the Clásico Capitalino. The name began as an insult: in 1939 a Bogotá journalist mocked the club's expensive Argentine signings as the new rich, Los Millonarios, and the club adopted it that August. The company behind it, Azul y Blanco Millonarios, dates from 2011, and Amber Capital took the majority stake in 2015. Matchday El Campín opened in 1938 in central Bogotá. In March 2026 construction began beside it on a 50,000-seat replacement with a retractable roof, planned so that matches and concerts carry on in the old ground while the new one goes up. The club marked its 80th year in 2026 with a commemorative kit and a run of collectible cards. Audience Two barras lead the singing at El Campín: Comandos Azules and Blue Rain. Blue Rain was started in 1992 by about ten young fans from the Suba and Kennedy districts of Bogotá and grew branches in other Colombian cities. The club calls its supporters Embajadores, the Ambassadors, and its women's team goes by Las Embajadoras. Track record The Ballet Azul won the Pequeña Copa del Mundo unbeaten in 1953. Later honours include the Copa Simón Bolívar in 1972, the final edition of the Copa Merconorte in 2001, three Copa Colombia titles, the 2011 among them, and the 2024 Superliga against Junior. Brand presence In 2026 the club's own site sorted its partners into three tiers: featured sponsors, among them adidas, Wplay, Cafam, Andina, Terrawind and GAC; allied brands such as Gatorade and Bodytech; and a set of digital allies including Sony, Xiaomi and Wahl. adidas makes the kit. The club also runs a paid supporter membership, Hincha Embajador Dorado, and a youth program, the Academia de Fútbol Millonarios, as its own entity.
