Overview The Moon Dance is the Land Trust of North Alabama's dinner-and-dance benefit inside Three Caves, a former limestone quarry at the foot of the Monte Sano Nature Preserve where three cave openings frame the stage and the air holds at about 55 degrees year-round. It runs on a Saturday night in September, two miles from downtown Huntsville, and the Land Trust calls it its largest fundraising event of the year. Guests get dinner, two drinks, live music or a DJ and a silent auction, and it is 21 and over. The Land Trust was incorporated in 1987, has protected more than 10,000 acres across seven counties and keeps more than 80 miles of public trail; Monte Sano, 547 acres on the mountain's western slope, was its first public preserve. On site There is no parking at the quarry. Free shuttles run from the Huntsville Hospital lots from 6:30, when the gates open, and rideshare drops at Mountain Springs Pool. The floor of the bowl is gravel, so the Land Trust asks for casual dress and closed-toe shoes. Seating is reserved by the ticket or the table of eight, with no door sales. Dinner is a catered buffet with vegetarian options; beer and wine are sold past the two included drinks, the bar takes no cash, and outside food, drink and chairs stay out. At sunset the lights come up on the limestone walls. The silent auction runs online through the week before and closes on the night, with experiences on Land Trust properties, local art, and goods and services from area businesses. Talent and Influencers The music changes every year. The Dawn Osborn Band played in 2023. In 2025 it was Quantaphonics, a Huntsville progressive-soul band that puts up to 13 players on stage and mixes jazz, soul, hip hop, funk and rock. For 2026 the Land Trust booked DJ ReggieRegg and an immersive lighting design from River City Lights and CKsimon, the lighting designer for Burning Man's Pearl Necklace from 2015. Brand presence Sponsorship comes in three levels. The presenting sponsor's name runs ahead of the event's own in all marketing, its logo is projected onto the limestone walls for the whole night, and it takes two tables, VIP parking at Three Caves and a stage announcement. Premier and supporting sponsors get a lit logo banner on site, VIP parking and a table or half table. All three appear on the Land Trust's homepage and event page and in its email newsletters, and the top two in its social posts. The Land Trust runs a smaller summer Concert at Three Caves in the same bowl, sold the same way.
