About this listing

The Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL) is the fastest-growing property in women's sports — and arguably in all of professional sports right now. Officially introduced on August 29, 2023 and launching its inaugural season in January 2024, the PWHL is now in its third season with eight teams across the U.S. and Canada. The league has already blown past 600,000 in cumulative Season 3 attendance — a 23% increase over last year, averaging 8,925 fans per game. In Season 2, Takeover Tour games averaged 18,287 in Canada (Rogers Arena, Videotron Centre, Rogers Place) and 11,464 in the U.S. (Climate Pledge Arena, Ball Arena, Little Caesars Arena, Lenovo Center, Key Bank Center, Enterprise Center), while relocation games in Canada drew an average of 15,830 — including 19,102 at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto. Prior to debut, the League and PWHLPA signed a landmark eight-year collective bargaining agreement — the first of its kind in women's professional hockey — establishing long-term stability and player empowerment. The PWHL has been named the #1 Most Innovative Company in Sports and #38 on Fast Company’s World’s 50 Most Innovative Companies list in 2026. The accolade comes on the heels of back-to-back seasons of unprecedented growth, including a surge of momentum coming off the Olympic Winter Games where, for the first time, women’s hockey players returned to an established professional league where they play in front of thousands of fans in arenas and on broadcast almost daily.  The PWHL also won the 2024 Sports Business Journal Breakthrough of the Year Award, triumphing over ESPN Creative Studios' Toy Story Funday Football/Big City Greens Classic, the NBA's inaugural In-Season Tournament, and the World Champions Cup. In Canada, The Harris Poll ranked the PWHL the #1 most reputable organization in the entire country — two years running (2024 and 2025). As Harris Poll Canada President Sara Cappe noted: "The PWHL's strong character metrics in culture, ethics and citizenship have helped the league win over Canadians." The roster features 208 players from 9 nationalities, including 61 Olympians who competed at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Games — 30% of the entire league. Stars like Marie-Philip Poulin (Team Canada Captain, 5x Olympian, Best Women's Hockey Player in the World), Hilary Knight (Team USA Captain, 5x Olympian), Sarah Nurse (Team Canada 2x Olympian, 1st Black woman to represent Canada in Olympic hockey), Kendall Coyne Schofield (4x Olympian), and Natalie Spooner (Team Canada 4x Olympian) are global athletes with massive crossover appeal. The fan base is a marketer's dream: ~60% female, ages 25–44, affluent ($125K+ household income), and family-forward — with approximately 62% of ticket holders attending with a child present. These fans show up — every U.S. state and Canadian province has been represented at a game. On social, the PWHL holds the #1 engagement rate on Instagram across all 13 major North American sports leagues (NHL, NFL, NBA, WNBA, NWSL, etc.) at 9.4%, with 4.9% combined engagement across Facebook, Instagram, X, and TikTok (#1 in women's sports, #2 overall). The PWHL's Instagram and TikTok audiences are majority female, younger, and strongest in the U.S. with Canada ranking second. The PWHL is the #1 fastest-growing women's professional league on Instagram, Facebook, X, and LinkedIn, and #2 on TikTok (source: SponsorUnited). Sponsor results speak for themselves: 75% of fans remember sponsor names, 65% feel more loyal to PWHL sponsors, and 32% have purchased from a brand after seeing them sponsor the league. Partner case studies from AIRSUPRA (+107% brand preference), Ally Financial (+300% ad awareness), and Molson Coors (Cannes Lion Award, 67M earned impressions) show this isn't hype — it's proven ROI. The PWHL operates as a single-entity model built intentionally for unified growth, with vertically integrated player marketing rights — meaning brands get access to league, team, AND athlete IP through one partnership. Backed by Mark and Kimbra Walter and guided by a world-class board featuring Billie Jean King, Ilana Kloss, LA Dodgers President Stan Kasten, and Dodgers SVP Royce Cohen — with ownership connected to the LA Dodgers, LA Lakers, Chelsea FC, and the Cadillac F1 Team — this is blue-chip infrastructure with ground-floor opportunity. The league is anchored by three social responsibility pillars: Inclusion (creating equity and building belonging), Youth Access & Retention (ensuring more girls can play, stay, and grow through hockey), and Women's Equity (leveling the playing field and the boardroom with visibility, career pathways, and leadership opportunities for girls and women in hockey).
