About this listing
Overview Ragnar is an overnight running relay: a team of up to 12 splits about 200 miles of road and leapfrogs between exchanges in vans, or a team of up to eight takes turns on three trail loops out of a campsite, and the clock runs through the night until the whole distance is done. The road races include the Bourbon Chase, 206 miles from the Jim Beam Distillery in Clermont, Kentucky, to Lexington. The trail races run at places such as Zion Ponderosa Ranch on the edge of Zion and Flat Rock Ranch, a working cattle ranch in the Texas Hill Country. FitLab, a Newport Beach fitness company, bought Ragnar Events in 2022. On site On the road, each runner runs three legs and the rest of the team drives ahead to the next exchange; the Bourbon Chase puts an exchange at the Maker's Mark distillery, runs pop-up tastings along the course and finishes with a bourbon sampling after-party. On the trail, teams pitch tents in Ragnar Village, the race's base camp. At Texas Hill Country the village runs campfires and s'mores, live music, yoga, prize giveaways and food trucks, and it is BYOB; at Zion it sits on a resort with a pool, hot tubs and a climbing wall, and teams can sleep in Conestoga wagons. Rent-A-Tent and glamping sites are sold for teams that do not bring their own. Every team gets partner samples, a captain's gift, medals and finisher shirts. Audience Everyone here is a runner on a team, not a spectator, and Ragnar's own pitch to them is that anyone who can run a 10K or a half marathon can run a Ragnar. Runners must be at least 12, and the Bourbon Chase is 21 and over. A trail team lives in the village for two days and a night between its legs, and a road team spends the same stretch in its vans, meeting the other teams at every exchange. Track record The first Ragnar Relay ran in 2004, 188 miles from Logan to Salt Lake City, and took its name from the Viking Ragnar Lodbrok. The trail series started at Zion in 2013. By 2026 Ragnar counted more than 750,000 runners across 350-plus races in its 20 years. Brand presence Ragnar sells partnerships in three forms: experiential activations at the races, co-created media campaigns, and posts across its social channels. Pressio makes the custom team apparel and runs the Ragnar gear shop, Dr. Bronner's is the official soap sponsor, and Town Branch Bourbon hosts the bourbon sampling at the Bourbon Chase after-party. Partner product goes straight into the samples every team receives.
