About this listing
Overview Rhode Island PrideFest is Providence's June Pride day, a festival in the park followed after dark by New England's only illuminated nighttime Pride parade, and it traces back to 1976, when a group of LGBTQIA+ Rhode Islanders was refused a place in the official Bicentennial celebration, took legal action and won, and the win led to Rhode Island's first Pride march. That makes 2026 the 50th anniversary. It usually falls on the third Saturday of June; in 2025 PrideFest filled 195 District Park and the parade ran through downtown Providence that night. Rhode Island Pride produces both. On site PrideFest fills the park with what the organizers bill as New England's largest LGBTQ marketplace and business expo, more than 250 vendors, exhibitors and organizations, around a main stage, a full beer, wine and spirits garden, food vendors and a KidZone with games and performances for families. The program includes drag, local and national acts and a rally produced by LGBTQ+ activists. At night more than 100 contingents, marching groups, floats and vehicles light up for the Illuminated Night Parade, which passes a reviewing stand at the Providence Performing Arts Center on Weybosset Street. More than 300 volunteers staff the day. Audience The crowd is local LGBTQIA+ Rhode Island and its allies, families included, plus visitors from along the East Coast. For many, the organizers write, PrideFest is where they find their community for the first time. Talent and Influencers Past PrideFest stages have carried Jennifer Holliday, Martha Wash, CeCe Peniston, Crystal Waters, Ultra Naté, Thelma Houston, Kristine W, Deborah Gibson and Tiffany, and from RuPaul's Drag Race, Jujubee, Monét X Change, Alexis Mateo and Pangina Heels. Track record Rhode Island Pride has grown from those 75 marchers in 1976 to a crowd the organization puts at more than 125,000 a year. Its 2025 Pride Guide thanked the sponsors who stayed on in a year when, it said, others stepped back. Brand presence Sponsors are sorted by the colors of the rainbow flag, violet up through red, under a presenting level. Every color tier includes a PrideFest booth, use of the year's theme and the Rhode Island Pride logo, and entry to the RI Pride VIP Party; from blue up a place in the parade is added, and the top tiers get the largest booths, choice parade placement, ads in the official Pride Guide and dedicated social posts. Production partners can take the main stage, the KidZone, Parade Square, the volunteer hospitality tent and its T-shirts, or a fireworks display; in kind, a car dealership can supply parade vehicles and a host hotel can supply rooms.
