Overview The Rio Grande Valley Vipers are the Houston Rockets' NBA G League team, playing in Edinburg, Texas, and they won G League championships in 2010, 2013, 2019 and 2022. The team started in 2007, and in 2009 it went into a single-affiliation deal with the Rockets under which Houston took over the basketball operations. The 2026-27 season is its 20th, marked with a commemorative logo. The G League is the NBA's official minor league, and it prepares players, coaches and referees for the NBA. Matchday Home games are at Bert Ogden Arena in Edinburg, which opened in 2018 and replaced the team's first home in Hidalgo. The team fields its own dance team, the Snake Charmers, and a Venom Hype Squad, and runs a summer reading program, Fang's Book Club. The breaks are also open to the public: singers, bands and dance teams can apply to perform at halftime, a timeout or a quarter break, and fans can book packages to shoot free throws, high-five the players or stand with them for the anthem. Talent and Influencers Nick Nurse coached the Vipers to the 2013 title and went on to become the first coach to win championships in both the NBA and the G League. Isaiah Hartenstein scored 30 points in the game that clinched the 2019 championship, and Trevelin Queen was the league's MVP in 2022, the third Viper to win it. Going into the 2025-26 season the team counted 56 former Vipers who had earned Gatorade Call-Ups to the NBA. Track record Beyond those titles, the Vipers won conference championships in 2010, 2011, 2013, 2017, 2019, 2022 and 2023, and once won 19 straight, the longest winning streak in D-League regular-season history. The team's community work runs on three pillars, education equity, health and wellness, and youth and family development, and its Back to School Expo ran for a sixth year in 2026. Brand presence The inventory lives on the court and in the building: a secondary patch on the game jersey, the padding on the basket stanchions and the poles, seat covers across a section, the backs of tickets, and a community court partnership. The Snake Charmers carry a partnership of their own.
