About this listing
Overview The San Francisco Marathon is a July race weekend whose full marathon leaves the Embarcadero at 5:15 in the morning and crosses the Golden Gate Bridge in both directions; by the race's own account it is the only full marathon in the city that does. The weekend runs seven races: an ultramarathon, the full, two halves that split the full course (the Bridge Half takes the first half and the City Half the second), a 10K named for the runner Alexi Pappas, 5Ks on Saturday and Sunday, and Sebastian's 1K Mad Dash for kids. The full is a USA Track and Field certified Boston qualifier and an Abbott World Marathon Majors age-group qualifier. The 2027 edition is the 50th. On site Bib pickup runs through a two-day Health and Fitness Expo at Fort Mason. The 2027 schedule sends the full off in four corrals between 5:15 and 5:30 from Embarcadero at Mission; the course runs past Fisherman's Wharf, the Marina Green and Crissy Field, over the bridge and back, along the ocean, through Golden Gate Park and down Haight Street, and past the Warriors' and Giants' ballparks to a finish at Embarcadero and Howard under the Bay Bridge. Fourteen aid stations carry water and electrolytes, three of them with energy chews, and the course closes after six hours. Finishers get a medal and a long-sleeve technical shirt, and a digital medal lands in their inbox. Audience Seventy percent of runners come from the Bay Area, and the rest from all 50 states and 74 countries, per the race's deck. Loyalty is built into the entry list: Legacy Runners who run three or more consecutive years get a pin and socks, with a separate tier at 11 years, and the 52 Club asks runners to finish one half, then the other half, then the full over three straight years. Between race weekends the RUN365 training club keeps more than 500 regular runners on the calendar with 25-plus events across San Francisco, San Jose and Berkeley. Track record The race deck counts 33,000 runners, up 23% since 2022, and more than 58,000 people through the two-day expo. Brand Finance ranked it eighth among marathon brands worldwide. The race credits itself with $140,000 raised for local charities. Brand presence Individual races carry partner names; the 2027 race list names the China Airlines Bridge Half, and Skratch Labs supplies the chews at three aid stations on the full course. Around the running, the race sells presence in its mobile app, the emailed digital medal and the digital athlete guide sent to registrants before the race, and on the expo floor at Fort Mason. RUN365 members finish in their own VIP tent, and the club offers partner discounts and corporate training plans year-round.
