Overview Showtime Flag is a co-ed, 7-on-7 flag football league in Lagos, Nigeria, where at least three women are on the field for every play, and each season ends in the Showtime Bowl, a championship day staged with music and live performances. Azeez Amida founded it in 2023 as SFFL Showtime, and it opened with an All-Star day on September 17, 2023. In July 2024 it rebranded as Showtime Flag and moved to a professional structure for players aged 18 to 55. It plays a modified version of IFAF flag football rules, and its seasons run as numbered series. On site Games are played at Showtime Arena, off the Lekki-Epe Expressway at Alma Beach Estate in Lekki. The field has a large LED screen, a VIP seating area and floodlights for night games, and a bar and food vendors sit alongside it. The regular season is a round robin, the top teams go through to playoffs, and teams that miss out play for a Community Cup. The arena livestreams games and books other events outside league play. Audience Showtime aims itself at young, urban Nigerians in Lagos and in the diaspora, and it runs game days as social events, with the bar, food vendors and VIP area beside the field. The players themselves are men and women from 18 to 55, and the co-ed rule means every team carries enough women to put three on the field for every play. Track record The league's teams have included the Warriors, Greenbacks, Raptors, Panthers and Ikan in Lagos, and in 2024 it added sides from outside the city, the Ogun Horns and the Delta Braves. Showtime says its Third-and-Female rule doubled female participation, and it runs grassroots programs under the names Showtime Streetz and the Incubator Program. Brand presence Partners buy in at four levels, from Bronze to Platinum. The inventory runs across the livestream, the league's Instagram, Facebook and YouTube channels, branding at Showtime Arena including its LED screen, and the community programs. The Showtime Bowl is the biggest single day on the calendar.
