Square Roots is a 3-day street festival in Chicago's Lincoln Square neighborhood that goes far beyond a typical block party. The festival brings together live music, family fun, local restaurants and vendors, and the biggest Midwest craft beer selection of any Chicago street fest. Featuring over 50 acts across 4 stages — including both outdoor main stages and intimate performances inside the concert halls of the Old Town School of Folk Music — Square Roots showcases everything from major headliners and world music superstars to emerging artists and local favorites. Past performers include The New Pornographers, Superchunk, Real Estate, Son Volt, Calexico, Beach Bunny, Guided By Voices, Pokey LaFarge, and many more. Beyond music, the festival offers dance lessons, interactive workshops, kids' performances, parades, and a full lineup of family-friendly programming. The festival draws 40,000+ attendees and provides critical fundraising for two legendary nonprofits: the Lincoln Square Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce (LSRCC), a nonprofit association of 250 businesses founded in 1948, and the Old Town School of Folk Music (OTSFM), the largest community school of the arts in the U.S., founded in 1957, offering over 700 group classes weekly and hosting over 400 concerts and community events each year. Proceeds support community place-making projects, small business workshops, scholarship programs, and artist-in-residence programs at public schools across Chicagoland. 79% of attendees live on the North Side of Chicago, most within just two miles of Lincoln Square, with a total reach of over 180,000 people living within the festival's 2-mile radius.
