Overview The Sunset Night Market closes Irving Street in San Francisco's Sunset District on a Friday evening for food vendors, live music, dance and carnival games, and the 2026 series tied each of its four nights to the lunar calendar: Lunar New Year, the Dragon Boat Festival, the Autumn Moon Festival and Dong Zhi, the winter solstice. USA Today 10Best readers ranked it No. 4 among the country's night markets in 2026, a year after placing it fifth. It is free and runs from 5 to 10 p.m. Sunset Mercantile co-organizes it with Wah Mei, Into The Streets and ASIAN Inc. Founded in 2014, Sunset Mercantile produces neighborhood events across the city, from the Sunday Outer Sunset Farmers Market to the North Beach Festival, and counts more than 200,000 attendees a year. On site In 2026 the market ran on Irving Street between 20th and 25th Avenues. Food vendors cook along the street, a main stage carries music and dance, and children's activities and carnival games sit among the stalls. Artisan makers, small businesses and community artists sell alongside the food. Sunset Mercantile calls it a celebration of food across the AAPI diaspora. Audience Sunset Mercantile's figures for its events put 51% of attendees from the Sunset District itself, 35% from elsewhere in San Francisco and 12% from other Bay Area counties. Track record The market launched in September 2023 with District 4 Supervisor Joel Engardio, and chef Martin Yan took part in that first night. In 2024 it came back for two Fridays, doubled to seven blocks between 19th and 26th Avenues and drew as many as 20,000 people at its peak. It paused in 2025, after organizers waited months for city reimbursements, and returned on February 27, 2026 on five blocks as a four-night series.
