About this listing
Overview Taste of Polonia is the Copernicus Foundation's four-day Labor Day weekend festival of Polish food, beer and music on the grounds of the Copernicus Center in Chicago's Jefferson Park, first held in 1980 and billed by the foundation as the oldest and largest Polish festival in the United States. Three stages run through the weekend, one of them inside the center's theater, alongside Polish food and beer, a Merchant Row, carnival games and a casino. The foundation is a nonprofit founded in 1971. It bought the former Gateway Cinema in 1979 and turned it into the Copernicus Center, with an 1,852-seat theater and the Solidarity Tower, modeled on Warsaw's Royal Castle and visible from the Kennedy Expressway. On site The Theater Stage carries film screenings, choirs, orchestras and folk dance by day and what the festival calls some of the biggest names in Polish music at night, and Sunday opens there with a Polish Mass sung by a full choir. The Tribute Stage runs polka bands in the daytime and Chicago bands and classic rock and pop tribute acts after dark. The Kids Stage has games, crafts and magic shows, then family movies in the evening. Outside, the food runs to Polish sausage, cabbage rolls, pierogi, potato pancakes, pork cutlets and blintzes, poured alongside specialty Polish beers, with a full bar inside. Merchant Row sells local and imported goods, and LED screens run between sets. The CTA and Metra stations at Jefferson Park are a block away. Audience The crowd is built around Chicago's Polish community, Polish-born and Polish American, with festival-goers coming in from neighboring states. The festival advertises in both Polish and English, on flyers circulated through Polish stores and delis, universities and neighborhood spots. Talent and Influencers The 2026 edition put more than 60 bands and artists across the three stages. The Polish rock band Organek, whose videos have passed 100 million YouTube views, played the Theater Stage on the Saturday night. Tribute acts have included the Phil Collins Experience, Slippery When Wet and Pink Talking Fish. The Marshal of the Senate of Poland, Malgorzata Kidawa-Blonska, and Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle have both attended as guests. Track record The festival counted 49,942 attendees in 2023, 50,257 in 2024 and 50,866 in 2025, with out-of-state visitors rising from 237 to 998 over those three years. The foundation puts festival proceeds toward performing arts groups, community events and local nonprofits on Chicago's Northwest Side. Brand presence The presenting sponsor's name goes on the festival itself, with category exclusivity, a booth on Merchant Row and a banner on the Copernicus Center building. Naming rights are sold separately on the Tribute Stage, the Theater Stage and the Kids Stage. Partners also get still ads that play up to 600 times a day on the site's LED screens and a video spot at every intermission, and logos on the festival's print run of 250,000 flyers and 10,000 posters in Polish and English, plus ads on more than 300 CTA and Pace buses.
