Overview The Williamson County Fair is nine days of rides, livestock and farm exhibits in Franklin, Tennessee, starting the first Friday in August, and its signature attraction turns children into farmers: they plant seeds, milk a cow named Buttercup, harvest the crop, sell it and spend what they earn on a snack. It runs at the Williamson County Agricultural Expo Park on Long Lane. A group working with the Ag Expo Park and the UT Extension Service brought back a traditional county fair in 2005, and the Williamson County Fair Association runs it as a 501(c)(3) that takes no tax dollars. On site Fireworks close Friday and Saturday nights, and the Seattle Wheel rides over the midway. Barn A holds the birthing pig exhibit, where a sow farrows in front of the crowd, and Barn B is the livestock show ring for beef and dairy cattle, goats and lambs, ending in the 4-H Expo live auction. In the Historic Village demonstrators carve wood and make bobbin lace among pieces from the Bethesda Museum, and at the Muddy Pond Sorghum Mill horses or mules turn the press. Indoors, in and around the air-conditioned arena, sit the youth, culinary and cultural arts entries, a chick hatchery, the Mind Works STEM games and a Picnic Pavilion where the daily butter-carving and cookie-stacking contests run. Audience Much of the fair is planned around small children: a Tag Your Tot table at the gate wristbands kids with a parent's contact details, and Little 1's Farming is built for them. Farm families get their own evening, a Century Farms dinner for the county's farms held by one family for 100 years or more, 43 of them in 2024. Veterans and active military get in free on the last Saturday, Patriot Day, when the fair names its Hometown Heroes. In 2024 about 36,000 tickets were bought online and scanned at the gate. Talent and Influencers The daily acts are touring variety shows. The 2025 lineup included the escape artist Kristen Johnson as Lady Houdini, the rescue frisbee dogs of K-9's in Flight, the illusionists Josh and Lea Knotts, ventriloquist Kevin Horner and chainsaw carver Roark Phillips, whose pieces sell during the week. Cornbread Sue brought a chuck wagon exhibit in 2025, and cowboy poets took the Pickin' Porch for the first time in 2024. Track record The 2025 fair, the 21st, drew 220,148 people over nine days, with several days of record attendance, and its GraceWorks Ministries food drive collected 15,360 pounds, the largest to that point. By 2026 the fair counted $440,929 returned to area high schools, 113,837 pounds of food given to GraceWorks since 2013, $62,050 in scholarships since 2013 and $302,789 in improvements to the Ag Expo Park. Its Letters to Soldiers post office had passed 4,883 letters by 2025. Brand presence Partners buy in by level, from Diamond down to Friend of the Fair, and each level picks items off a menu tied to real things on the grounds: the fireworks, Little 1's Farming, the Wi-Fi login screen, ticket booth banners, bleacher seat wraps in the arena, a coupon printed on every online ticket, hand fans and lollipops handed out at the gate. Williamson Health runs the Baby Care Station under its own name. Partners may call themselves an Official Partner of the fair, hold first refusal on their category for the following year, and pay in kind as well as cash.
