Overview The Trek Across Maine is a three-day, 180-mile charity ride for the American Lung Association that starts and ends at Pineland Farms in New Gloucester, with riders spending the two nights on college campuses along the route. Every rider fundraises to take part, with a minimum of $550 for adults and $400 for riders aged 7 to 17. The Lung Association bills it as "Maine's biggest and best family reunion," and the 2027 edition is the 43rd. On site The 2026 route ran 66 miles on day one from Pineland Farms to Bates College in Lewiston, 59 miles on day two to St. Joseph's College of Maine in Standish, and 55 miles on day three back to Pineland. The send-off is at 7 in the morning. Luggage travels separately and meets riders at each stop, and bike mechanics work every site. At Bates the afternoon runs on a baked potato bar, an open pool and a buffet dinner, then trivia night, with riders camping on the historic quad or taking dorm rooms. St. Joseph's has outdoor live music in the afternoon. Team Tent City sets up lawn games, music, beer and snacks, and the finish at Pineland ends with lunch. On the final day a gravel ride runs 25 and 50-mile loops out of Pineland for people not doing the full trek. Audience Riders come as teams of four or more - co-workers riding as corporate teams, groups of friends, families and first responders - and each one has asked their own network for donations before the start. Families ride together, since the minimum age is 7. Over three days the same riders pass through the same rest stops, dinners and campsites, and 200 to 250 volunteers staff the rest stops, intersections and finish line, with local bike shops giving their time as mechanics. Brand presence The ride is built from parts a sponsor can own: the presenting position, individual rest stops along the route, the Winner's Circle, the volunteer program, the finisher's commemorative medal, the rider bib and the participant T-shirt. Companies can also enter their own riders through the Lung Association's national corporate team program.
