About this listing
Overview The United Football League is spring professional football, a ten-week regular season from late March through May and a championship in June, played under rules the NFL does not use: no kicked extra points, conversions worth one, two or three points depending on distance, and four points for a field goal of 60 yards or more. It came out of the merger of the XFL and the USFL at the end of 2023 and played its first game in March 2024. In 2026 its owners were Fox Corporation, RedBird Capital Partners and Impact Capital, Mike Repole's firm, which bought a significant minority stake in July 2025. For 2027 the league carries eight teams, adding Colorado in Colorado Springs and Rhode Island in Pawtucket to Columbus, Dallas, DC, Louisville, Orlando and St. Louis. On site Seven of the eight 2027 teams play in stadiums of 8,000 to 25,500 seats, from Weidner Field in Colorado Springs to Audi Field in Washington; St. Louis plays in The Dome at America's Center, which seats 67,277. A second forward pass is legal if the first one stays behind the line of scrimmage, and tied games go to a best-of-three shootout of two-point tries from the 5-yard line. Games air nationally: in 2026 across ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, Fox, FS1 and NFL Network, with streams on the ESPN app and Fox One, and from 2025 Fox made the league a Friday-night fixture on its broadcast network. Off the field the league runs player showcases and coaching clinics. Track record Birmingham won the first title in 2024, 25-24 over San Antonio in St. Louis. In 2025 DC beat Michigan 58-34 at The Dome at America's Center; the league averaged 12,548 fans a game, St. Louis averaged 29,259, and television averaged 0.7 million viewers a game with 0.98 million for the final. In 2026 Louisville, in its first season, beat DC 27-20 at Audi Field. Brand presence Partners buy in at two levels: official partner of the whole league, or official partner in a single team's market. Under Armour, Michael Strahan's MSX, Westgate Resorts, Progressive, Gatorade, Simply Spiked and Molson Coors were among the league's sponsors in its first season, and in April 2024 the United States Army signed a partnership reported at about $11 million.
