About this listing
Overview The Utah Days of '47 Rodeo is five nights of PRCA pro rodeo in Salt Lake City each July, timed to Pioneer Day. That holiday marks July 24, 1847, when the first Mormon pioneers reached the Salt Lake Valley. The rodeo bills itself as the world's only gold medal rodeo: winners in each event take home a gold medal made by O.C. Tanner, the company that struck the medals for the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. A volunteer nonprofit runs it for Utah's heritage and kids. On site Everything happens at the Days of '47 Arena, a $17.5 million outdoor stadium at the Utah State Fairpark with more than 10,000 seats. Gates to the free Frontier Fun Zone open at five. Kids ride ponies and the mechanical bull while their parents work through the food trucks. Lakota families run a Native American encampment next to a pioneer camp. The arena opens at seven and the rodeo starts at eight. Live music runs in the Fun Zone before and after. On the last night, a drone and fireworks show follows the Gold Medal Round. Audience Tickets sell out. The rodeo has grown from about 20,000 seats sold a year to roughly 50,000 in six years, and fans rate it nine out of ten. The crowd is mostly Utah families and western-lifestyle fans from along the Wasatch Front. It is the biggest ticketed event of the Pioneer Day week. Talent and Influencers About 360 to 400 contestants come in across eight events, 40 per event: bareback, saddle bronc and bull riding, steer wrestling, team roping, tie-down and breakaway roping, and barrel racing. Many of them are chasing a spot at the National Finals Rodeo. The top two each night advance to a sudden-death Gold Medal Round, where each winner takes the medal and $18,000. Recent medalists include No. 1 ranked bareback rider Bradlee Miller and Utah bull rider Hayes Weight. Track record Days of '47 goes back more than a century as a Salt Lake City tradition and joined the PRCA recently. Prize money now tops three-quarters of a million dollars. Every performance airs live nationally on the Cowboy Channel. Rodeo week opens with Horns and Halos, a freestyle bullfighting night. Longhorns are driven through downtown streets, and the Utah Mutton Busting Championships run the same week. Brand presence Zions Bank holds the presenting title. The roster mixes Intermountain Health and Boeing with western brands like Wrangler and Boot Barn. Both event-integration packages pair a pre-show commercial on the Cowboy Channel broadcast with ribbon board and jumbotron time, arena signage and five nights of hospitality. A nightly sponsor names one performance and brands the chutes and scoreboard that night. For client hosting there are Heritage Club seats, Ribs and Rodeo box seats and the Corral VIP Lounge.
