About this listing
Overview The Western Sydney Lakes Marathon and the Nepean Triathlon are two back-to-back race days at the Sydney International Regatta Centre in Penrith, the venue built for the Sydney Olympics. Saturday brings 2,200 runners across five distances, from a full marathon and half marathon to 10km, 5km and a 2km fun run. Sunday is the Nepean Triathlon, Australia’s oldest triathlon, with 1,200 athletes and more than four decades of history. On the same weekend the regatta centre also hosts the NSW rowing state championships, so the whole precinct is full of athletes for two days. On site Both events run around Competition Lake, with bib collection on Western Flat and presentations at the Grandstand. The marathon starts at dawn and rolls through the morning as each distance sets off. The triathlon fills Sunday with formats from the Classic and Aquabike down to Sprint, Super Sprint and TriKidz races for children as young as five. It is a compact, flat, lakeside venue where athletes, families and supporters all gather in the same finish area. Audience The field is dedicated and active, with 57% men and 43% women. Around a third of registrants are aged 30 to 39, and more than half sit between 30 and 59. These are serious amateur athletes who train year-round and spend heavily on gear, nutrition, recovery and wearables. Western Sydney is one of the fastest-growing regions in the country, and these events reach its most active households directly. Talent and Influencers The Nepean Triathlon has a long list of Olympians and Ironman World Champions among its past competitors, and the rowing championships bring state and national team rowers to the same venue. Both events sit alongside partners like Explore Worldwide, Penrith Panthers, Peoplecare, Rudy Project and Pure Sports Nutrition. Brand presence A presenting partner owns both days: branding on the start and finish arch, the race bibs and the presentation stage, plus live mentions over the PA. On site, a booth and sampling zone at the finish line puts product in hand as thousands of athletes finish hungry, thirsty and ready to recover. A post-race refuel stand, a recovery or massage tent, or a product insert in every race pack reaches every athlete across both events.
